New Bern, the town that inspired many scenes from the classic Nicholas Sparks romance novel-turned movie, The Notebook, is the second oldest town in North Carolina.
New Bern has four distinct historic districts and 160-plus homes on the National Historic Register, some dating back to the 18th century.
The area is home to culturally diverse families who don’t necessarily want the bustle of downtown Sacramento, but they want their kids to have the benefit of growing up in a nice neighborhood.
You’ll find the stereotypical soccer mom loving the excellent schools here.
It’s common for adult children to return to the neighborhood with their own families to have grandma and grandpa only blocks away.
